Saturday, 10:45 a.m.: PIP CPS: A fast, new tool for promoting resilience in teens
Following a career in the wireless industry that included earning patents and launching a software company, Bob Anthony founded Adolescent Wellness, Inc. in 2002 to simplify youth depression prevention. Collaboration with Boston's Children's Hospital, McLean Hospital and South Shore Hospital has yielded curricula for depression prevention and other resources for school staff, teens, parents and youth clergy which are free downloads at www.AdolescentWellness.org . Most recently Bob, whom is a certified trainer for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Connect suicide prevention program, collaborated with the founders of Creative Youth Leadership on a tool for youth to learn and practice creative problem solving during the brief time period of a health class or youth group meeting.

     Educated in organizational psychology and engineering physics, Min began refining his insights about applied creativity at Procter & Gamble while working with teams developing new products and helping senior management engage employees at all levels in cost & profit improvement.

Alan (Robert Alan Black, Ph.D. CSP) has been drawing since birth.  He drew before he could speak. He drew on walls of his bedroom until his mom stopped him and gave him paper. In school he was the kid who did all the hallway art. He went on to earn 3 college degrees in art and design out of 5 he began plus two degrees in education out of 3 he began and has worked as a licensed architect, cartoonist, graphic, interior and industrial designer, as well as, a college professor teaching design and drawing at the Univ of Ga.  For the past 25 years he has been a creative thinking consultant and trainer who travels around the world to teach and learn while having a lot of fun with new friends. he Since 1964 has been learning from many fields how to create visual ideas and solve problems graphically.  

 

Alan says: I have spent most of the past 32 years focused on learning and helping myself and others to recognize their natural creativity and to develop skills and knowledge about how to become DELIBERATELY CREATIVE. I have been an eclectic learner and teacher exploring and working in many fields. The common threads to my 47 jobs in 8 fields in the past 48 years are....

3. I love to help people grow

Ann Bracken is an educator, an expressive arts coach, a program developer, and the owner of her own business, The Possibility Project.  In addition, she holds certification in poetry therapy, journal facilitation, drama in education, and special education. For more than thirty years she has worked in education, linguistics, writing, and small business development.

Ann has had a long and varied career in education with jobs ranging from working as a speech pathologist to working with troubled adolescents in a psychiatric facility.  She has taught English and reading in high school and professional writing at the college level.  Ann currently works as a high school special education teacher in Howard County, Maryland where she incorporates elements of drama to help at-risk students improve reading and writing skills.  As a poetry therapist and expressive arts coach, she has created an original expressive arts program for women in transition called The Three Pillars of Hope©.   She has also designed poetry and writing workshops for The National Association for Poetry Therapy, The University of Maryland, Howard Community College, The Maryland Writers Association, Charlestown Retirement Community, and the World Bank.  Most recently, she co-authored and presented a paper on journaling in business education at the Global Business and Technology Association Conference in Madrid, Spain

As a spiritual coach, consultant, and counselor Maria has spent two decades working with dozens of non-profit communities, including the Gandhi Foundation USA, India America Cultural Association, Soka Gakkai International, Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site, Albany Civil Rights Movement Museum, and Morehouse College. As a public speaker, workshop facilitator, and transformational trainer she has traveled to churches, bookstores, conferences, and educational centers across the United States.

Her articles, essays, and meditations have been published in various magazines. She has self-published numerous books and manuals, and released two recordings of guided meditations. Saturday, 1:15: Active Aging: Using creativity and fun to maintain a healthy brain
Anne has created and conducted workshops, seminars, presentations and retreats on humor, public speaking, stress, creativity, and various other topics for government and private organizations, colleges, training centers, churches, and other non-profit associations over the past 13 years. A few years ago, she became interested in the possible prevention of Alzheimer’s disease when she learned about a study on elderly nuns who were dying virtually free of the disease.  On studying this topic in more depth, Anne discovered that striving to be creative can keep the brain young and healthy and possibly help prevent Alzheimer’s, and she is excited and motivated to get this message out. Lynn is a retired elementary school principal from a large suburban school district in New Jersey. Her educational expertise includes staff development for teachers, mentorship, and training in the areas of differentiated instruction, Emotional Intelligence and multiple intelligences, imagery, reflection, personal growth, Creative Problem Solving, Cooperative Learning, and instructional strategies.  Presently, she is working for Learning Plus, an organization that provides quality staff development programs specializing in differentiated instruction, assessment, strategies for diverse learners, collaborative teaching, and multiple intelligences to name a few.  Lastly, Lynn is most proud of being a facilitator/presenter for the Creative Problem Solving Institute and has facilitated workshops in CPS, developing leadership style, team building, mentoring, and tools and techniques of creativity.  Email:

He is active with Leadership Buffalo and is an adjunct professor at the International Center for Studies in Creative Leadership (Buffalo State College). His doctorate is in education. A proud father and husband, John strives for creative, respectful and healthy balance in life.

Christina Gonzalez is a licensed mental health counselor and educator. She has been involved with education at many different levels and has been very active in the mental health and education fields in both the United States and in Mexico. Her work has encompassed many aspects of the mental health field including prevention, intervention, immigrant psychology, child welfare, substance abuse, disaster intervention, and much more. She currently works full time with children involved in the child welfare system due to abuse, abandonment, or neglect, and also teaches college courses in college writing, behavioral sciences/psychology, and health and human services administration. She also does professional editing, writing, and loves applications of research, focus groups, and program evaluation techniques to programs that make a difference for others in ways that can help bring the voices of everyone involved in the process to be heard. She is a dynamic and entertaining trainer and enjoys incorporating her love of creativity, art, dance, music, travel, and film into her psychotherapy and education work. She currently lives in Sarasota  and her most recent passion is exploring the world of dance.

Saturday, 9:00 a.m.: Jung and Osborn and Saturday, 1:15: Changing Perspective: New ways to stimulate unexpected connections
An economist and student of consumer behavior by training, Paul has been a
marketing professional for 30 years. Most recently he was the principal of
a marketing, strategy, and business development group using creative
problem solving techniques to help clients identify and prioritize their
complex research and marketing needs. He has served as treasurer on the
Board of Trustees for the Creative Education Foundation, is on the Board
of Trustees for Hudson Guild — a 100-year-old+ settlement house in New
York City, facilitates not-for-profits and serves as the New York Hub
Leader for Facilitators Without Borders, is on the faculty of the Creative
Problem Solving Institute, volunteers as a docent at the Rubin Museum of
Himalayan Art, and serves on numerous community organizations.

Paul has helped firms such as J. P. Morgan, HSBC, Bankers Trust, and
Citibank develop marketing strategies targeting the sophisticated banking
and investment management needs of affluent and private banking clients in
the U.S., Japan, and Europe. Before entering the financial services
industry, Paul was an associate scientist at Brookhaven National
Laboratory where he modeled energy supply and demand responses to changes
in energy pricing and availability using large-scale econometric and
linear programming models. He holds an MA and doctorate in economics from
SUNY Stony Brook and lives in New York City..
 
Katherine (Kitty) Heusner, Ph.D.
  

 

CoChair and Saturday, 1:15 p.m.: Changing Perspective: New ways to stimulate unexpected connections
Kitty is a lifelong learner who has been involved in education as a student (PreK through PhD) and professional for over fifty years. She has also made a lifelong commitment to community involvement and is passionate about applying creativity to make a positive difference in her own life and the world. Currently Kitty is actively involved in the Creative Education Foundation [a member and secretary on the Board of Trustees and a long-time leader at CPSI (Creative Problem Solving Institute)] and has been very involved in the development of the CEF YouthWise Program. In her community she is a part of the Meadows U committee and is also active as a GS GulfCoast Florida volunteer. Kitty is the Co-Chairman for Florida Creativity Weekend and has been involved since it began. Sharing with family and friends both at home in Sarasota and around the world, spending time in the North Carolina mountains, traveling and photography also bring her great joy.

Dianne is a sophomore at Pine View School in Osprey, Florida. She is an active Girl Scout that serves on the Board of Directors and Teen leadership Board for Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida. Dianne has taken part in the creativity weekend for three years and is ready to take on a new challenge by leading her peers and other adults in this workshop. Dianne loves applying her knowledge of creative problem solving to challenging situations and cannot wait to teach others about creativity and its implementation in daily life.

Creativity Weekend Planning Team and Saturday Key Note co-presenter, 4:45: 'Possumbilities:' What did the day hold?
Sherry is currently the Director of Adult Development for the Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida and we couldn't do this without her. Providing training opportunities for the over 3,000 adult volunteers is no small task!  She began college majoring in physical education and then completed her degree in Organizational Development/BusinessAdministration. Sherry ‘speaks’ fluent sign language and serves as the signer for her church. She is active in ASTD and as a volunteer with the Manatee Players. Her independent practice includes facilitation, training, qualitative research, public speaking, counseling and psychotherapy.  A rich array of work settings and clients – academic, corporate, government and nonprofit – has given Liz many opportunities to “manage polarities.”  She serves as a leader at the Creative Problem Solving Institute, is a graduate of the Mastery Program in Polarity Management™ and is a consultant affiliate of Polarity Management Associates and thinkx intellectual capital.

Co-Chair, Nancy's extensive work with Fortune 500 companies led to Seeds for Change, her program for empowering people in the midst of increasing change. Nancy custom designs programs for organizations in these turbulent times to increase employees' and teams' emotional intelligence, creativity, and peak performance. Nancy also coaches individuals and teaches teleclasses. Susan Newhouse


 

Saturday 10:45 a.m.: We're Off to See the Wizard
As VP of Innovation, Susan leads the strategic development and implementation of the TNS Landis innovation offering.  From insight generation and analysis, to creative design and ideation facilitation, to concept writing and testing, Susan collaborates with her insights and marketing strategy counterparts to develop winning ideas for clients. 

Susan received her B.A. in Speech Communication from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, focusing on interpersonal communication and psychology.  A dynamic speaker and certified in Creative Problem Solving, Susan is in high demand for teaching and speaking at a number of creativity conferences.  She also studied improvisation at Josephine Forsberg’s Players Workshop in Chicago, and hosts a party of fun characters in her creative soul.  In her free time, Susan pursues her passion for music, food, all things Italian, and enjoying creative experiences with her family.
 
Dan Novak, Ph.D
    
Saturday, 3:00 p.m.: The Innovation Advantage: How leaders encourage the cross-boundarying of ideas and build a culture of innovation across the organization.

Dr. Dan Novak serves as Assistant Professor of Leadership at South University, where he directs and teaches in the Master’s of Science in Leadership program. He also serves as Adjunct Professor at Texas Christian University where he teaches a graduate-level course in innovation and executive workshops in TCU’s Executive Education program.

 

Dan holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from Regent University, with additional focus on Human Resource Development. He has an MBA from the University of Dallas, a BBA from the University of North Texas, and a Six Sigma Green Belt certification with a specialization in healthcare. Dr. Novak has published book chapters and articles on the organization-customer interface, leading virtual teams, servant leadership, and on leading in collaborative, networked, and highly-matrixed environments. He has presented at conferences in the U.S., Canada, and U.K. on innovation, collaborative leadership, social and organizational networks, Web 2.0., and Healthcare 2.0.

 

Previously, Dan spent 31 years at IBM in a broad range of leadership, sales, entrepreneurial, and international roles. He also consults and coaches in the areas of leadership breakthrough, organizational strategy, innovation, and organizational diagnosis.

Julia Onnie-Hay

Add Co-coordinating Teen Involvement and Yoga Sessions
Julia lives in Sarasota and enjoys yoga, volunteering at a local community garden, cooking with friends and studying herbal medicine. Julia is the Girl Scouts of GulfCoast Florida’s Healthy Girls Initiative (HGI) Program Specialist.  She is a holistic health counselor certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.  She earned degrees with honors from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (an affiliate of Columbia University) and New College of Florida.

With a background in not-for-profit administration and leadership development, she is delighted to be working with the Girl Scouts of GulfCoast Florida, Inc. in promoting  holistically healthy lifestyles for girls.

Gordana is a Professor of International Business and Economics at Argosy University, Sarasota, and a visiting professor at Universities in Thailand and Argentina.  She has traveled extensively and taught at Universities in China, Taiwan, Thailand, Czech Republic, Serbia, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, and The Bahamas. Gordana organizes a short-term program abroad for graduate students where she takes students to different countries. They meet and exchange ideas with government officials, business people, students, and educators. Frank is the author of over 30 books and articles in the field of creativity and innovation in business. He recently coauthored the book Stepping Stones to Success, a printing in a highly successful leadership series. This book is coauthored with best-selling authors Dr. Warren Bennis (author of On Becoming a Leader), Jack Canfield (co-creator of Chicken Soup for the Soul ®), and Deepak Chopra (author of Seven Spiritual Laws of Success). Last year Frank was published in the first edition of the book Blueprint for Success that was co-authored with Stephen Covey (Seven Habits of Highly Effective People) and Ken Blanchard (One Minute Manager). His clients include several Fortune 100 firms including Bayer Schering Pharmaceutical, Time Inc., Procter & Gamble, Perrier, PepsiCo, Kellogg and Nabisco. He serves as a Colleague, Leader, and Lifetime Member for the Creative Education Foundation. He is also a member of the National Guild of Hypnotists. Gloria is a co-founder of the Creative Youth Leadership Program. She is widely experienced in the area of community organization, especially educational and social program design. While president of a board of education, Gloria co-designed its student assistance program, which has since been replicated in numerous school districts. She has developed and delivered, creativity and innovation programs for the Singapore Institute of Management in Singapore and for the Center for Entrepreneurship at Canisius College. She has also designed and delivered training to teachers and students in South Africa. Russ is also a Lecturer at the International Center for Studies in Creativity where he teaches graduate courses in facilitating creative process. When he is not working, he can be found in Chicago practicing aikido, improvising and learning Italian.

Creativity Weekend Planning Team and Sunday, 9:15: Bridging Generations: Exploring Perspectives Across Generations
Anita Scott is a retired school psychologist who practiced parent counseling and group therapy in a private school for neurologically impaired and emotionally disturbed children in New Jersey.  In 1995 she retired and returned to her native state of Florida to begin a new life as a "senior citizen."  She is a graduate of the Florida State University and has a master’s degree from the Eastman School of Music.  Before turning to school psychology, Anita was a professional bassoon player.  She was on the faculty at Texas Christian University, played in the Ft. Worth Symphony and met her husband who was playing in the Houston Symphony.  After marrying they spent a year in Vienna, Austria, returned to Illinois where Alan earned a PhD in Chemistry and Anita taught band and PE in a country grade school near Urbana.  They ended up in New Jersey, had two sons in the mid 60's and Anita returned to school to find out what the heck to do with two growing boys.  The family spent a year in Brazil in 1976, where everyone became literate in Portuguese -- well, everyone, that is, but Anita, who could only talk a good game.  In retirement her favorite pass times are cooking, travel and photography.  She has recently developed an enthusiasm for Zen water coloring.

Mary Ann Smorra is a Professor of Education at Georgian Court University, New Jersey, USA where she is fortunate to work with motivated and dedicated students!  She also serves as a presenter and performer for organizations located nationally and internationally - including Denmark, Great Britain, Turkey, Italy, Canada, Brazil, and South Africa.  Inspired by the Creative Problem Solving Institute for many years, Mary Ann received the Colleague Award and Leadership, Service, & Commitment Award.  Additionally, she was part of the CEF YouthWise team working with students from the Xhosa community in South Africa.

Susan is a member of Mensa and Intertel, and is the coordinator for Mensa's Patrick O'Brian Special Interest Group. She is the author of The Port-Wine Sea, co-author of Your Limitless Inventing Machine, and author of The Better Baby, a new book about raising happy geniuses.
